Shuttle AM vs. Shuttle LT - Are they different enough?

Pivot gained some traction a few weeks back with the release of their new Shuttle LT. Building on the success of the Shuttle AM, released in late 2023, Pivot sought to incorporate the best looks, incredibly comfortable ride dynamics, and a full Bosch system into this new offering. The Shuttle AM stands out as one of my top bikes in the E-Bike segment—something I can attest to having owned and thoroughly enjoyed one myself. But with the arrival of the Shuttle LT, a crucial question arises: Are the AM and LT too similar? 

The Shuttle AM is a remarkable bike that excels in various terrains, thanks in part to its well-thought-out design philosophies: Capability, Rider Positioning, Manageable Power, and Maneuverability. Its geometry strikes a balance that feels both composed and comfortable, especially on steep and technical trails. The precision it delivers allows riders to navigate challenging lines with confidence, making it a joy to ride on 95% of trails. However, it can feel slightly unsettled on high-speed, chunky sections if you stray off the given line. 

Upon unboxing the Shuttle LT, I was immediately impressed by the eye-catching frame (much better than previous iterations of this bike…) and the powerful Bosch motor. After some adjustments, including lowering the front end height by 20mm, I was eager to hit the trails. The sizing and cockpit felt remarkably familiar and incredibly comfortable, echoing the AM’s appeal. However, riding both bikes left me pondering their proximity in design and performance. 

Pivot is known for its conservative geometry, which typically results in refined, predictable rides. The AM features a head tube angle of 64.5 degrees, while the LT comes in at 64 degrees. This slight difference is tangible on the trails, leading to the question: Are these bikes different enough to warrant their respective places in Pivot's lineup? 

While it’s clear that both the AM and LT deliver exceptional riding experiences, they share many attributes that can lead to confusion. The AM is a trail E-Bike built for the everyday rider, capable of tackling any trail with ease while making every ride enjoyable. It allows you to focus on the challenges ahead, whether navigating steep rollers or technical climbs. On the other hand, the LT, while also capable, offers longer travel numbers without a significant change in geometry. This raises the question of necessity. 

The LT is undoubtedly a great bike, but when compared to the AM, it doesn't provide enough differentiation to justify a new addition to the lineup for many riders. Both bikes are equipped with the same Bosch motor and battery, which further blurs the line between them. A mullet wheel set up did provide some tangible difference in riding, but more so came at the hindrance of climbing, not in the benefit of descending. While the LT may appeal to those looking for a bit more travel, the truth is that the AM can tackle a vast majority of trails with its impressive capabilities. In many cases, riders might be better served by the AM, which is not only more affordable but also offers excellent value, especially with rumored deals of $7,350 on the Pro Build and $5,600 on the Ride Build ( - Use code “SHUTTLE30” to price match in cart). 

What makes the Shuttle AM particularly compelling is its versatility. It is designed to be an all-around trail bike that excels in climbing and descending alike, making it ideal for those who want to tackle a range of trail conditions without the feeling of being over-equipped for less technical rides. Its manageable power output and rider-friendly positioning allow for an engaging experience, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a relative newcomer. Additionally, you could do the PBS Local build and put a 170mm Fox 38 and a Push ElevenSix or SV-Eight and bump up the capability of the AM to match almost any other bike on the market. In contrast, while the LT aims to cater to riders looking for slightly more aggressive trail riding, the similarities in geometry and performance with the AM suggest that it may not be necessary for those who already appreciate the AM's strengths. For many, the Shuttle AM provides a more well-rounded experience without compromising on performance. 

In conclusion, both the Pivot Shuttle AM and LT are excellent bikes in their own rights, offering comfort, precision, and capability. However, the subtle differences in their design and performance may not justify the investment in the LT for most riders when faced with the better pricing of the AM. The Shuttle AM shines with its exceptional value and proven versatility, making it the clear choice for those looking to maximize their riding experience without breaking the bank.
