Mechanical Shifting Is Back and Mineral Oil Is Better

Sram is making this the year for the best budget upgrades! With 2 new mechanical drivetrains, 6 new brakes, and plenty of new build kits from top brands like Yeti, Revel, and more, getting bikes that are more budget friendly and competitively equipped is now easier than ever. Mechanical T-Type

New to the drivetrain line up are Eagle 90 and Eagle 70 mechanical transmissions, yes, SRAM made mechanical t-type. Eagle 90 serves as a replacement for GX and while Eagle 70 serves as the replacement for NX. With Eagle, you can shift seamlessly at any time, even with maximum power, without any trade-offs. And, if you want mechanical shifting but a lighter cassette, cranks, or chain, all T-Type componentry is interchangeable and compatible to make getting the perfect setup easy.

Installation was a breeze with its simple "prepare, hang, tighten" process. Like every mechanical drivetrain, setup did require some adjustment… but if the only adjustment we need to make after install is a turn of a barrel adjuster to compensate for a stretching cable then we are stoked! Designed to be rebuildable, reliable, and affordable, the Eagle Mechanical Transmission is the ultimate dream for mountain biking enthusiasts, now a reality.

Installing Eagle 90 on our demo bikes had us wanting to do the one thing we are all told not to, shifting under full power. With a smooth shift actuation and plenty of support, everything glided into place and stayed quiet no matter how hard we tried to break a chain. Reminiscent of old X01 and XX1 Mechanical, the shift feeling was light but very precise. More on how to try Eagle 90 for yourself at the bottom.

Installation is a breeze when your Prepare, Hang, Tighten, and Route. This ensures perfect shifting under the hardest loads with absolutely no adjustments needed.

Mineral Oil For All

As a move that many may have seen coming, Sram released 6 new brakes, and ALL of them are mineral oil. New offerings include the Motive, a direct replacement for the outgoing Level and Code brakes, the Maven Base, DB6, and DB4. With many new and lower price point brakes they hope to take over this sector of the market by offering incredible reliability paired with unmatched power. 

Designed for today's cyclists who crave speed in every environment, the Motive brake strikes the ideal balance between being lightweight and providing substantial stopping power, whether you're on the XC track or exploring remote trails. With Motive, you can delay braking, maintain higher speeds, and still climb just as quickly as ever.

The new Maven Base, DB6 and DB4 all cater the budget rider and will be what is specced on a lot of OEM build kits. Utilizing bigger pistons and newly designed calipers makes these 3 new offerings have plenty of power. Being more budget conscious does mean these brakes carry more heft on the weight side, but not something that we are too worried about with the majority of spec on SL and Full power E-MTBs.
