How Does the Melee V2 Achieve a 6.8kg Weight Limit?

ENVE engineered the Melee V2 to tackle the two most critical metrics in modern road racing simultaneously: weight and aerodynamics. They set out to completely remove the compromise between a dedicated aero bike and a lightweight climbing rig.

Hitting the UCI minimum weight limit of 6.8kg with a modern disc-brake bike can be a massive challenge, especially when aero is also a top goal, but the Melee V2 achieves it. A 56cm complete bike built with SRAM Red easily hits that 6.8kg mark. ENVE accomplished this through several calculated hardware and structural changes:

• UL Black Finish: The Ultralight Black paint option uses a clear coat over raw carbon with minimal graphics. This adds only 31 grams and keeps the 56cm frame weight down to a stunning 791 grams.

• Streamlined Frame: The overall frame surface area has been reduced by 7.5% to shave grams and cheat the wind.

• Updated Bottom Bracket: The frame moves to a BSA bottom bracket, reducing weight by 30% compared to the previous T47 standard.

• New Hardware: ENVE integrated the Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) and introduced a new two-bolt seatpost that simplifies saddle adjustments while shedding 28 grams.

• Tighter Clearance: Maximum tire clearance has been brought down from 35mm to 33mm. This saves weight and reduces aero drag without sacrificing the necessary volume for modern road racing.

What Are the Real-World Aerodynamic Upgrades?

To ensure the Melee V2 wasn't just fast on a computer screen, ENVE took the frame to the Mercedes-Petronas Wind Tunnel in Silverstone, UK, partnering with aerodynamicist Simon Smart. Their "Real-World Fast" protocol involves testing the bike exactly how it will be ridden: with a rider on board, pedaling, and with water bottles and cages installed.

The results speak for themselves, with the new system testing 17 watts faster than its predecessor. Those savings break down precisely:

• -11.4 watts from the refined frame, fork, and seatpost shapes.

• -3 watts from the new handlebar and bar tape.

• -2.6 watts by utilizing ENVE's new aero cages with standard round bottles.

Optimized Cockpit and Refined Geometry

The front end of the Melee V2 gets a massive upgrade with the new SES Aero Road Bar v2, featuring an Aergonomic drop shape specifically designed to reduce the rider's frontal area. This is the very same bar profile favored by Tadej Pogačar. To squeeze out every last watt, ENVE also released a new velvet-touch 1.2mm thick Aero Race Tape and aero bottle cages that drastically reduce the drag penalty usually caused by carrying hydration.

For riders looking to dial in their position, the Melee V2 features a highly refined race geometry. ENVE lowered the stack height by 11mm on sizes 56-60cm (5mm from the frame, 6mm from the bar). With five different fork rakes spread across the seven frame sizes, the handling remains razor-sharp and uncompromised regardless of what size you ride.
